I won’t claim to know everything there is to know about Atlanta, but I am an Atlanta native. A proud Atlanta native. I’ve lived here my whole life and spent countless days exploring the sights, the museums, and the activities. I know what Atlanta has to offer. Like every sane city dweller, I have my favorite spots, and although I am inclined to, I will not gatekeep. Most of these are things you can find via a simple Google search, but sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s actually worth your time. So wonder no longer—I am here to share my top five Atlanta must-sees.
#1 Georgia Aquarium
Our aquarium is the biggest in the country, and it absolutely lives up to the hype. Yes, it’s a little pricey and definitely touristy, but it’s also an incredibly fun all-day activity. They have amazing shows, play areas for kids, and so many exhibits to explore. I’ve been to the Georgia Aquarium probably a dozen times, and I still get excited every time I have the chance to go.
#2 Center for Puppetry Arts
Puppet shows are such a unique and fun activity for people of all ages. The Center for Puppetry Arts hosts shows year-round, and each one offers its own incredible experience. They also have a fantastic museum and a charming little gift shop. I visit at least once a year, and I genuinely think it’s one of Atlanta’s most underrated attractions.
#3 Dark Horse Tavern
Here’s my unexpected pick. Dark Horse Tavern, located in Virginia-Highland, is best known for its karaoke and line dancing. I’ll be honest—I’ve never actually been to one of their karaoke nights, but I’ve heard they’re legendary.
Line dancing, however, is an event I never miss. Every Wednesday, they offer swing lessons at 7 PM, followed by line dancing at 8 PM. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who already knows the dances, there’s something for everyone. It’s always a great time. They also have a cute patio if you want to take a break between dances. Parking is usually around $5, but there’s never a cover charge.
#4 Medieval Times
Okay, so this one isn’t technically in Atlanta, but it is absolutely worth the drive. If you’ve never been to Medieval Times, you need to add it to your list. It’s one of those experiences that’s fun no matter how old you are. Your ticket includes dinner and an action-packed tournament, making it a memorable outing from start to finish. I’ve been at least five times throughout my life, and I’ve loved it every single time.
#5 Visit the Fox Theatre
The Fox Theatre is Atlanta’s own little slice of Broadway. If you love live performances, this is a can’t-miss destination. I’ve only been a handful of times, but every visit has become a core memory. Between the stunning architecture and the incredible performances, there’s truly nothing else quite like it.
With this guide in mind, I hope you get the chance to check out some of my favorite spots around Atlanta. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived here for years, there’s always something new to discover in the city I’m lucky enough to call home.
